Lira City, Uganda – NRM aspirant for Lira City Woman MP, Hon. Sarah Awor Angweri, has assured the public that she will address the two ministers politically, one by one, as the 2026 elections draw closer. She emphasized that her strategy involves engaging with the two ministers during the NRM party primaries, progressing to the final general election, and, with hope, emerging victorious in the 2026 general election for the position of Lira City Woman MP.

While addressing the media at Gracious Palace Hotel on Friday, March 21, 2025, Awor stated, “I will deal with the two ministers one by one, starting with the NRM party primaries, then moving on to the final general election. I am determined to win the 2026 general election for Lira City Woman MP.”

She further added, “The Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi, is the wife of the president of UPC. She should focus on canvassing votes for her husband in 2026, instead of contesting herself.”

Awor also highlighted her vision for Lira City: “I will break the chain. We have the industrial park, and we need our airport, jobs for the stranded youth in Lira City, and, above all, unity among the NRM structures in both Lira City and beyond. I am crying for the youth who are struggling because of leaders who have failed to provide employment. They should not undermine me; I will deal with them using my political tactics to win the upcoming 2026 election.”

Awor shared that she is already prepared for her campaign, saying, “I am now set with 1,500 shirts to paint Lira City yellow, and I want to mobilize massively for President Museveni.”

Recently, Hon. Betty Amongi, the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, shifted her polling station to Lira City and declared her intention to contest for the Woman MP position under UPC in 2026. She has been distributing several hand hoes and T-shirts across Lira City.

Additionally, Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the current Lira City Woman MP, was recently endorsed by a section of FDC members in Lira City to contest as Lira City Woman MP in 2026.

Awor remains determined to contest under the NRM party in the 2026 general election.
