There is a growing public demand from voters in the Layibi-Bardege Division constituency of Gulu City for Lt. Gen. Otema Charles Awany, the commander of Reserved Forces, to contest as an MP in the forthcoming parliamentary election, possibly replacing Hon. Ojara Mathin Mpenduzi, the current serving MP of the area.
Lt. General Charles Otema Awany, while addressing the media in an exclusive interview from Iceme Sub-county in Oyam District last weekend, confirmed that he is receiving numerous calls and demands from residents of Bardege-Layibi Division to contest as an MP.
Otema, who is known as “Won Gang,” is gaining significant support from the residents of Layibi-Bardege Division. “If the residents of Bardege-Layibi Division wish for me to contribute to the people towards services, I have no problem. They have been approaching me, asking for my help in 2026, but I have been telling them that it is not yet time. If the time for political campaigning comes and is declared, I have no problem because I have always been with the community,” said Otema Awany.
