(Jinja) – Bobi Wine Addresses Youth Convention Amid Security Restrictions
Despite roadblocks and venue challenges by local authorities, a large crowd of Ugandan youth gathered in Jinja for the National Unity Platform (NUP) Annual Youth Convention, presided over by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine. The event, held at the Jinja Show Grounds, aimed to inspire young people to engage in Uganda’s democratic processes.
Bobi Wine, a prominent opposition figure, shared that, despite initial arrangements, the convention could not be held at the Kakindu Stadium. Although NUP had booked and paid for the stadium, authorities reportedly prohibited its use. In response, the event was moved to Jinja Show Grounds, where young attendees braved restricted access and roadblocks, showing what Bobi Wine described as “strong dedication” to the cause of freedom and democracy in Uganda.
Bobi Wine emphasized the role of Uganda’s youth in shaping the nation’s future, urging them to remain focused on Uganda’s transformation. He noted that “the youth are the leaders of the future,” and encouraged young Ugandans to actively participate in reimagining the country’s future. He applauded their resilience and commitment in attending the event and thanked Honorable Francis Zaake and other leaders of NUP’s Youth League for their work in organizing the convention.
