Hon Kagabo Twaha, the Member of Parliament representing Bukoto South in Lwengo District, has officially departed from Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform and joined the ruling NRM party led by Museveni, where he claims to feel appreciated.
Earlier today, Kagabo made the announcement via his X account, stating, “Behold, Bukoto South Constituency (Lwengo District) Member of Parliament 2026 to 2031 is here.” He also emphasized the four core principles of NRM—patriotism, pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy—which he believes are vital for the progress of Uganda.
Dr. Twaha Kagabo first gained public attention in May 2022 when he was involved in a scandal concerning an alleged bribe of sh40 million, claiming that Speaker of Parliament Anita Among had given him the funds to assist MPs in addressing COVID-19 related challenges, which led to Bobi Wine’s displeasure and the ensuing fallout.
Twaha has previously had multiple confrontations with NUP supporters on social media but has firmly asserted that he is no longer affiliated with the party and has pledged his loyalty to the Patriotic League of Uganda associated with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
He joins a number of MPs who have distanced themselves from the National Unity Platform, including notable figures such as Hon Mathias Mpuuga and Hon Abed Bwanika. With the 2026 general elections approaching, it is anticipated that more surprising political shifts will be revealed over time.
Most MPs from the Buganda region were propelled into the 11th Parliament by the NUP movement. However, many will likely face challenges in reclaiming their seats, as some have demonstrated ineffectiveness and have fallen short of expectations. Others have struggled to align with the party’s principles and values.
