President Yoweri Museveni, who serves as the National Chairman of the NRM, has honored the late Hon. Aleper Simon Peter, describing him as a martyr who dedicated his life to the development of the Karamoja region. Hon. Aleper, who was the NRM Vice Chairman for Karamoja, tragically passed away in a car accident on the Mbale-Iganga highway.

President Museveni highlighted that Aleper often traveled late into the night due to his extensive responsibilities for his community. “He tirelessly advocated for unity and worked to sensitize his people about the importance of welcoming investors,” Museveni said. He noted Aleper’s role in facilitating a major investment project in Karamoja.

Aleper and I worked together to educate the locals about the benefits of the factory. As a result, they donated 500 acres of land for its establishment.”

Museveni praised the progress made in Karamoja, stating that the region has transformed from one of the least developed to a hub of industrial activity. “Today, Karamoja stands out with its industrial achievements,” he remarked.

The President urged those mourning Aleper to trust in God as a means to navigate life’s challenges. “This faith is crucial for enduring and thriving in the world,” Museveni advised.

Al Hajji Moses Kigongo, the First Vice National Chairman, expressed deep sadness over Aleper’s passing. He described the late leader as a courageous individual who spoke truth to power and whose contributions will be greatly missed.

NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Todwong, also reflected on Aleper’s impact, noting that his death is a significant loss to the party. “Hon. Aleper was a valued colleague since our student leadership days at Makerere University,” Todwong said. He also highlighted Aleper’s role in supporting President Museveni’s endorsement as the NRM flag bearer for the 2026 Presidential elections.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, along with NRM Central Executive Committee members, ministers, MPs, and other senior leaders, joined President Museveni in paying their final respects to Hon. Aleper.
