Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo appears to be one of the few members of the NRM who is expressing a contrasting view compared to other party officials. He has now acknowledged the widely recognized fact that the ruling party frequently transports individuals to political events.

According to Ofwono, the NRM regularly gathers people from different areas and brings them to locations where elections are taking place, particularly highlighting the Kawempe North by-election as an example. He compared his party leaders to mercenaries who seek assistance from external sources.

Additionally, Ofwono expressed his confusion regarding the NRM’s practice of renting tents for rallies when they are intended to be public gatherings. He also criticized the party for consistently using entertainers as the primary draw for attracting crowds. While he acknowledged that entertainment can enhance the atmosphere and uplift spirits, he argued that it should not be the central focus of their campaign efforts.

“The NRM frequently brings people into areas where they are campaigning. What is the purpose of filling a venue with individuals who clearly do not vote here? This could be seen as a sign of insecurity. I also question why they feel the need to rent tents for public events. I have noticed that musicians play a prominent role during these campaigns. While boosting morale is important, it should not be the main focus of the campaign,” he stated.

Recently, Ofwono Opondo has taken to criticizing his own party for its shortcomings. Many netizens are left astonished by his candid remarks, believing that he may be nearing the end of his career, which is why he is now speaking such straightforward truths.

Ofwono also addressed the Buganda region, which was once a stronghold for the NRM. However, its performance in recent elections has been disappointing. He mentioned that the substantial support the party has received in the past has led to a sense of complacency, and they must reawaken their efforts. Nevertheless, he believes it is still possible to regain the region’s support.
