In a bold political move, veteran opposition MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has officially severed ties with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), ending years of association with the party once considered Uganda’s leading opposition force.

Addressing the media on Monday, Ssemujju made it clear that his chapter with the FDC—now under the leadership of Patrick Oboi Amuriat, whom he mockingly referred to as “comical”—was closed for good. “Whatever happens there is none of my business,” he told journalists, signaling a clean break from internal party conflicts that have long plagued the FDC.

Ssemujju announced that his political energy is now fully aligned with the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a newly revitalized opposition platform spearheaded by former FDC strongman Dr. Kizza Besigye. The PFF, according to Ssemujju, is committed to reawakening Uganda’s struggle for democratic governance, accountability, and civil liberties—principles he claims have been sidelined under both the ruling government and fractured opposition.

“This is about returning to the roots of the real struggle,” Ssemujju said. “The PFF is not about positions or personal gain—it’s about ending the prolonged rule of President Museveni and building a just, free society for Ugandans.”

His departure marks a significant shift in Uganda’s opposition politics, especially as the 2026 General Elections loom. With more prominent figures increasingly disillusioned with traditional party politics, movements like the PFF are expected to reshape the narrative around opposition unity and resistance.

Political observers now wait to see whether Ssemujju’s bold move will trigger a wave of defections or spark a renewed push for nationwide mobilization under the PFF umbrella.

One thing is certain: Ssemujju has drawn a clear line in the sand—and he’s not looking back.
