Gen. Moses Ali's announcement has set the stage for the 2026 general election, where he aims to continue his long-standing service to the people of Adjumani West.

Gen. Moses Ali, Uganda’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, has declared his intention to contest for the Adjumani West Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 general election. He made this announcement while serving as the chief guest during the inspection of the Kiraba market in Ukusijoni sub-county.

“Some people announced me dead several times. It was only Jesus Christ who died and rose again. In Uganda, elections are held every five years. I will contest again, and if you are not happy, it’s up to you,” Gen. Ali stated. His words emphasized his determination to remain active in Ugandan politics.

During his visit, Gen. Ali also commissioned the 20.59-kilometer Kulukulu-Zoka community road in Ukusijoni sub-county. He welcomed any potential challengers to his candidacy in the Adjumani West constituency, reinforcing his commitment to his political career.

Gen. Ali, a close ally of President Museveni, is 85 years old and has had a long and distinguished political career. He has served in every Ugandan government since independence, and despite his age, he insists that he remains fit to lead his constituency in Adjumani district.

There have been concerns about Gen. Ali’s health, as he has appeared frail and has needed support to stand on his feet. He collapsed during a parliamentary session in 2023 and has not returned to parliament since. However, his resolve to serve his constituency remains undiminished.

Gen. Ali holds the position of First Deputy Prime Minister, a role he has maintained under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) regime. Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, the new Youth State Minister, spoke highly of Gen. Ali, saying, “He is a true patriot. I learn a lot, love, and respect Mzee Gen. Moses Ali, Second Deputy Prime Minister, and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament. May the Lord bless you.”
