Kasese – In a surprising turn of events, Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang won a medal in the Rwenzori Marathon, leaving thousands of participants in Kasese district in awe.
The dedicated minister secured a medal in the 10KM race, finishing in 6th place.
Speaking to the media after crossing the finish line, Ogwang expressed his excitement about participating in the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon in the scenic landscapes of Kasese District.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I participated in the 10km run and finished 6th. I congratulate my colleague Amos Wekesa, the Ministry of Tourism, and other partners for making this event possible,” Ogwang said.
He emphasized that such marathons provide a platform for nurturing young athletes and preparing them for the competitive world of sports.
The Rwenzori Marathon offers a unique opportunity to promote healthy living, discover young talents, and boost tourism, among other benefits.
Ogwang expressed delight at the large number of tourists who participated in the run, highlighting Uganda’s status as a top tourism destination. He called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to leverage sports to promote tourism and reap the substantial benefits.
Over 3,000 participants from 33 countries took part in this year’s 3rd edition of the marathon. Congratulations to Minister Ogwang on his well-deserved medal.
