Akorio Ibrahim Uses Football to Unite Communities in Karamoja and Celebrate Uganda’s Struggle for Freedom

KOTIDO, Uganda – Tarehe Sita celebrations are a significant event in Uganda, marking the 44th anniversary of the struggle for freedom and democracy.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Pan-African Solidarity and People’s Sacrifice in the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy for Socio-Economic Transformation,” highlights the importance of unity and solidarity in achieving socio-economic transformation.




The celebrations in Kaabong Town Council and Kotido Municipality, slated for Thursday, February 6, 2025, will feature football matches, promoting unity, solidarity, and community engagement while honoring the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and democracy.




The event is expected to attract a large crowd, including football enthusiasts, community leaders, and local residents.




Tarehe Sita commemorates the day when men and women took to the bush to fight for freedom and democracy, and the celebrations serve as a reminder of the importance of honoring the past while reaffirming commitment to the values of freedom, democracy, and socio-economic transformation.

Akorio Ibrahim, the visionary CEO behind MuryaGaz FC in Kotido and Caltex Kaabong, is the driving force behind the football matches.
