The Ankole Times

The Ogwang Tournament 2024 is set to kick off on December 14th, 2024, in Ngariam County, Katakwi District. This exciting event has been made possible by the State Minister for Education and Sports (Sports) and Ngariam County legislator, Hon. Peter Ogwang.

A total of 63 parishes have registered their teams, and the tournament promises to be a thrilling platform for talent identification and community engagement.

A New Format for a Broader Reach

Unlike previous editions, this year’s tournament will begin at the parish level, allowing more teams to participate and compete in home-and-away matches. This new format is designed to promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for youth from all sub-counties to showcase their skills.

Ensuring Fair Play and Integrity

To ensure the integrity of the tournament, the organizing committee, led by Joseph Alucha, has implemented strict supervision measures to prevent the participation of players from outside Ngariam County. Additionally, FUFA experts will conduct training for referees to prevent cheating and ensure fair play.

Empowering Youth and Promoting Unity

Hon. Jorem Obukwi, chairperson of the LC3s of Katakwi District, has urged the participating youth to refrain from using toxic drugs and to promote unity during the games.

The tournament promises to be an exciting event that will bring together youth from across the district, fostering social cohesion and community engagement.

Exciting Prizes and Support

The Minister’s office has provided sports jerseys, footballs, first aid kits, and other equipment to all 63 parishes. Exciting prizes will be awarded to winning teams, and the tournament promises to be a joyous celebration of youth talent and community spirit.
