Ukrainian drone operators have successfully disabled another North Korean M-1978 Koksan self-propelled gun (SPG) in the Donetsk region, marking the fifth such system neutralized by the Ukrainian Unmanned System Forces (UNF) in the past month.
This successful operation highlights the continued effectiveness of Ukrainian drone forces in disrupting enemy artillery capabilities.
The attack was carried out by operators from Ukraine’s Raid 413th Battalion of the UNF, who detected and disabled the Koksan SPG.
A video of the strike was shared via Telegram on Tuesday, showing the moment of the attack on the long-range artillery system. The report also explained that due to mounting artillery shortages, Russia has increasingly relied on North Korean-supplied Koksan SPGs to maintain its long-range fire capabilities.
The Koksan M-1978, which boasts a 170mm gun with a firing range of up to 60 km, is the longest-range tube artillery system in North Korea’s arsenal. Originally developed to target Seoul from across the demilitarized zone, Russia has now deployed these systems in Ukraine to compensate for its significant artillery losses.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have destroyed more than 25,000 Russian artillery systems, continuing to erode the enemy’s firepower and limit its long-range attack capabilities.
Additionally, last week, the 14th Separate Regiment of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces successfully struck another Koksan SPG using HIMARS in Russia’s Kursk region, further demonstrating Ukraine’s ongoing offensive against Russian artillery.
