Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has stated that Ukraine aims to “accelerate certain processes” in the US-led diplomatic efforts to end the Russo-Ukrainian war.
In an interview with Polish TV channel TVN24, as reported by European Pravda, Sikorski explained that Ukraine has shown appreciation for the United States’ role in de-escalating the situation, which could pave the way for American negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, Sikorski also pointed out that Ukraine’s approach goes against the traditional canons of diplomacy. “According to the established canon, first, a confidential channel of communication is opened, the intentions of the other party are clarified, trust is built, and then the leaders only bless the agreement that is almost ready,” Sikorski explained. He noted that US President Donald Trump has his own “personal style,” which differs significantly from the conventional diplomatic approach.
Despite this, Sikorski revealed that Ukrainians have expressed hope that Trump’s unorthodox approach could accelerate the peace process. “Ukrainians tell me that this creates hope for the acceleration of certain processes that they hope will lead to lasting peace. So, they are giving Donald Trump the credit of trust here,” he said.
Following recent talks in Saudi Arabia (March 23-25), the US, Russia, and Ukraine agreed to a ban on attacks on energy facilities.
However, this arrangement has had no practical effect, as Russia continues to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine will prepare evidence of Russia’s violations of the energy ceasefire and provide it to the United States, expecting a response.
