Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree initiating the spring conscription for military service. This decree mandates the call-up of 150,000 Russian citizens aged 18 to 30. The conscription period will run from April 1st to June 15th.
The decree also outlines the discharge of soldiers, sailors, sergeants, and non-commissioned officers whose conscripted service has concluded. Putin has directed the Russian government, regional executive bodies, and conscription commissions to ensure the smooth implementation of this draft.
According to Interfax, a Russian news outlet, this spring’s conscription target is 150,000 individuals. This contrasts with the autumn 2023 conscription, which saw 133,000 recruits joining the military for a one-year term.
It’s important to note that changes to the military conscription system took effect on January 1st, 2024, raising the maximum conscription age to 30. This adjustment is reflected in the current spring decree.
Furthermore, it has been reported that the staffing of the Russian Armed Forces has been increased to nearly 2.4 million, with 1.5 million being military personnel.
Russia traditionally conducts conscription drives twice annually, in spring and autumn. The autumn 2023 conscription campaign, which aimed to recruit 133,000 individuals, occurred between 1st October and 31st December last Year
