A newly released video has confirmed the active presence of Turkish volunteers fighting alongside Ukrainian forces in the war against Russian aggression. Shared on the social media platform X, the footage features four Turkish fighters carrying a national Turkish flag in what appears to be an active battle zone. This marks the first visual proof of Turkish fighters being directly involved in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In the video, one of the men delivers a message in Turkish, stating that they have been in Ukraine for the past two years. “We are not only defending Ukraine. We are here for all occupied Turkic lands and for all oppressed nations,” he said. He also mentioned that they are fighting for the rights of women and children, wherever they are denied freedom. The video concludes with the group shouting “Glory to Ukraine”.
While the exact location and date of the recording remain unknown, the video adds to mounting evidence that foreign volunteers continue to play an important role in Ukraine’s resistance against the Russian dictator’s full scale invasion. According to estimates, as many as 30,000 foreign nationals are fighting within Ukraine’s International Legion, which was formed in February 2022 shortly after the Kremlin launched its invasion.
