Russian forces have begun testing a new combat tactic in the Donetsk region involving motorcycle units and ground-based robotic drones. However, the attempt to shift battlefield strategies quickly collapsed under Ukraine’s effective response. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported a complete destruction of the Russian column, including two unmanned ground systems, a tank, a shelter, and a group of motorcyclists.
According to officials, the Russian troops deployed this experimental tactic in an apparent effort to outmanoeuvre Ukrainian defences. The operation involved coordinated use of motorcycles for fast movement and robotic platforms to scout or carry equipment. Despite the effort, the tactic failed. Ukrainian defenders, using high-precision drone systems operated by Phoenix UAV units, targeted and neutralised the entire Russian formation.
The entire group was destroyed in one coordinated strike. The ground drones, tank, temporary shelter, and motorcyclists were all eliminated in the engagement. The footage and data from the UAVs confirm that the Russian force was caught off guard and quickly overwhelmed.
This is not the first time Russia’s battlefield innovations have ended in failure. In earlier incidents along the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian military drones successfully destroyed an enemy armoured tractor and an MT-LB armoured vehicle during a failed evacuation. Russian forces attempted to escape but were neutralised by precise drone strikes.
