KYIV — The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has presented over ten new models of domestically produced FPV drones powered by fibre optic control systems. These cutting edge systems are currently in the final stages of codification and will soon be supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for frontline use.
The demonstration event, held earlier this week, brought together Ukrainian drone manufacturers who showcased a wide range of drone models, some of which are capable of carrying payloads of up to three kilograms. These systems use fibre optic links for remote control, offering a significant tactical advantage in environments where traditional radio signal systems are vulnerable to jamming.
The Ministry confirmed that experienced drone operators from the Ukrainian military evaluated the new equipment and expressed interest in deploying them across various units. These developments aim to counter increasing drone activities by Russian forces, who have recently expanded their use of fibre optic technology in their unmanned aerial systems.
Lieutenant Colonel Yevhenii Tkachenko, head of the UAV systems department at the Main Directorate of Innovations at the Ministry of Defence, noted the urgent need to offset enemy capabilities in this critical sector. He stated that the Russian dictator’s forces are scaling up their fibre optic drone warfare, which cannot be intercepted by conventional electronic warfare methods, making Ukraine’s advancement in this area essential for national defence.
Tkachenko praised Ukrainian manufacturers for their speed and adaptability, noting their commitment to keeping pace with the demands of modern warfare. The new fibre optic drone models offer greater reliability, security, and battlefield resilience — an answer to the Kremlin’s attempt to gain dominance through stealthier drone control methods.
In an additional remark, Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence, confirmed that while Ukraine is currently winning the drone war, Russia’s shift to fibre optic technology presents a significant challenge. He reiterated the urgency of deploying Ukraine’s own advanced systems that are immune to radio interference, a critical step in keeping Ukrainian defences ahead.
