Ukraine’s growing defence technology sector has introduced a new homegrown laser weapon system known as SlimBeam. Developed by Ukrainian firm Fulltime Robotics, the compact system is part of a broader effort to strengthen defences against ongoing Russian aerial threats, including drones and surveillance systems.
SlimBeam is a high energy 1,500 watt laser system capable of disabling drones from distances up to 800 metres and blinding enemy optics at a range of up to 2,000 metres. Its operation is both silent and invisible, offering Ukrainian forces a stealth advantage on the battlefield. The system can be remotely controlled through a secure web-based platform or run fully autonomously, reducing risks to Ukrainian personnel.
Weighing just 50 kilograms and measuring 55 by 52 by 67 centimetres, SlimBeam can be mounted on mobile platforms or used in fixed positions to protect key military and civilian infrastructure. It can also be deployed for mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal, making it a versatile tool for frontline units.
Igor, Chief Executive Officer of Fulltime Robotics, stated the company is prepared to scale up development and build more powerful versions capable of longer range engagement, provided further support and investment is secured.
SlimBeam is the latest addition to Ukraine’s expanding arsenal of laser defence technology. In April, the country’s Unmanned Systems Forces successfully demonstrated another system, called Tryzub.
