In the early hours of Sunday, 18 May, enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operated by the Russian dictatorship were spotted in the skies over Kyiv and the surrounding region. Ukrainian air defence units immediately sprang into action, engaging the aerial threats as they manoeuvred unpredictably through the airspace.
According to reports from the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), the first alerts were issued at 2:41 AM local time. A number of drones were tracked within the region, prompting the activation of air defence systems. Residents near the capital’s outskirts could hear the defensive responses clearly during the incident.
The administration confirmed shortly after, at 2:47 AM, that combat efforts had intensified and moved directly above the city of Kyiv itself, with Ukrainian forces continuing to engage the drones. Officials urged civilians to remain in shelters, warning that the UAVs were altering their flight paths, likely in an attempt to evade interception.
These drone intrusions are part of an ongoing campaign of terror carried out by the Russian dictator against Ukrainian civilians, infrastructure, and sovereignty. The latest aerial incursion comes only hours after another Russian assault resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to eight others in the Donetsk region.
