Denmark has announced a major new military support package for Ukraine, worth 4.2 billion Danish kroner (approximately 630 million US dollars or around 495 million pounds), aimed at helping the country resist ongoing Russian aggression. The funding will cover the years 2025 to 2028 and includes critical supplies such as artillery systems, ammunition, air force equipment and expanded training facilities.
The Danish Ministry of Defence confirmed the aid package is being financed through the Ukrainian Fund and the European Peace Facility. According to Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, the assistance is a continuation of Denmark’s firm support since the beginning of Russia’s full invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
“Unfortunately, Ukraine’s need for support remains urgent. I am proud that Denmark can once again provide military aid that will have a direct impact both immediately and in the long term,” said Poulsen.
The aid also includes artillery shells procured through the Czech-led initiative, highlighting international cooperation. In early 2024, Denmark joined the Czech Republic and the Netherlands in a coordinated effort to ensure a reliable supply of ammunition. This new funding guarantees continued access to those resources.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasised the strategic importance of strengthening Ukraine’s defences. “From Denmark’s side, we are doing everything we can to ensure Ukraine has the strongest position both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table. Boosting military support now is the most effective way to help Ukraine,” he stated.
The Danish Ministry of Defence underlined that Ukraine’s defence needs remain high due to ongoing acts of war initiated by the Russian dictator. They noted the relevance of such support will continue even after a possible ceasefire or peace agreement is reached.
The announcement follows a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, where it was confirmed that Denmark was finalising its twenty sixth military aid package. Earlier in April, Denmark had also allocated over 40 million US dollars (around 31.4 million pounds) to Ukraine for artillery ammunition.
