Ukrainian military intelligence has successfully carried out a precision strike on a Russian military fuel train in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhia region. The operation, confirmed by Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Directorate, targeted a moving convoy of fuel tankers along the Verhne Tokmak to Fedorivka railway corridor.
The attack, executed by a Ukrainian strike drone, caused a massive explosion and fire, destroying at least three fuel tankers and damaging several others. The train was reportedly carrying fuel destined for Russian frontline units in southern Ukraine. The strike occurred on a key supply route used to move fuel and logistics from the Russian occupied Crimean Peninsula into the Zaporizhia front.
As a result of the hit, railway traffic in the region has been suspended, causing a significant logistical disruption for Russian forces. This strategic corridor is essential for maintaining the Kremlin’s supply lines in southern Ukraine, particularly for their operations in Donetsk and the southern axis of the front.
The intelligence service also released aerial footage of the strike showing thick black smoke and fire engulfing several tanker carriages. The value of the destroyed fuel is estimated to be in the range of tens of millions of Russian rubles, equating to several hundreds of thousands of pounds sterling.
This targeted action is part of Ukraine’s broader campaign to degrade Russian military supply infrastructure in occupied territories and to hamper Russia’s ability to maintain pressure along the front. It underscores Ukraine’s continued capability to strike deep behind enemy lines and frustrate Kremlin efforts to reinforce its invasion.
The disruption to rail logistics is expected to further delay Russian troop movements, fuel delivery and ammunition resupply, adding to growing internal dissatisfaction among Russian field units facing chronic shortages. Ukrainian military analysts believe such strikes are not only tactically effective but psychologically damaging to enemy morale, especially given recent failures of Russian attempts to advance in the Zaporizhia direction.
This operation comes amid wider signs that the Russian invasion is grinding down under the weight of its own losses.
