Steve Witkoff, U.S. President’s special representative for the Middle East, who is also involved in the negotiation process with Ukraine, may meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday, March 13. This was reported by Axios correspondent Barak Ravid on X, as seen by Ukrinform.
“A source familiar confirmed Witkoff’s planned trip to Moscow later this week for a meeting with Putin,” Ravid wrote.
Ravid also published Witkoff’s tentative schedule for the week:
- Tuesday: Meeting with Emirati President MBZ in Abu Dhabi
- Wednesday: Gaza hostage talks in Doha and a meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar
- Thursday: Possible meeting with Putin in Moscow
However, Ravid emphasized that the schedule could still change.
Earlier, Bloomberg journalist Annmarie Hordern had reported on X about Witkoff’s alleged plans to travel to Moscow. “President Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, plans to visit Moscow for a meeting with President Putin,” she wrote, citing unnamed sources.
The White House and the State Department have not confirmed the report so far.
As Ukrinform reported, the Ukraine and U.S. delegations are set to meet for talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11. Ukraine will be represented by the Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak; his deputy, Pavlo Palisa; Minister for Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha; and Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov.
The U.S. delegation will include U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Presidential Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
