On the 1,163rd day of Russia’s full scale war against Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine delivered one of the most significant blows to Russian occupying forces to date. More than 1,200 Russian troops were killed in a single day as a result of concentrated Ukrainian strikes on enemy positions, including key command and gathering posts. This information was confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The operation involved a total of 196 recorded combat clashes across the front line, with 85 of them focused in the Pokrovsk direction alone. Ukrainian air, missile, and artillery units played a central role in this success. According to Ukrainian military sources, the day’s victories included the destruction of three Russian tanks, 11 armoured combat vehicles, 45 artillery systems, one multiple launch rocket system, two air defence systems, 112 operational tactical drones, and another 139 vehicles used for military purposes.
Since the start of the full scale invasion, it is estimated that Russian forces have suffered over 953,190 casualties, including both those killed and wounded. The financial cost of lost equipment and assets now runs into the billions. In rough terms, using average military equipment valuations, the damage from this single day alone could amount to several million pounds, with some analysts estimating it could surpass GBP 40 million (approximately 1.9 billion rubles) in destroyed hardware.
While Ukrainian forces achieved these impressive gains, Russia continued its assault on Ukrainian territories. Over the same 24 hour period, Russian forces launched one missile, 92 airstrikes, and dropped 139 guided bombs on Ukrainian towns and defensive positions. Russia also conducted 5,900 artillery shellings, including 145 from multiple launch rocket systems, and deployed 2,677 kamikaze drones.
Numerous Ukrainian settlements came under Russian attack. These included areas in the Sumy region such as Mykhailivske and Ugroidy, as well as several towns in the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Kharkiv regions. Despite the widespread aggression, Ukrainian troops successfully held defensive lines in key locations, particularly in the regions of Vovchansk, Kupiansk, Lyman, and Siverskyi.
In response to the enemy’s offensives, Ukrainian air and artillery units carried out pinpoint attacks on nine enemy troop and equipment concentrations, one air defence unit, an artillery piece, and three separate command centres.
