Ukrainian armed forces have reclaimed 115 positions from Russian occupiers in the month of April, as part of a sustained counteroffensive operation along several threatened fronts. The achievement was confirmed by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, who credited the gains to active defence tactics currently employed across key areas of the battlefield.
According to Syrskyi, the Ukrainian military focused its main efforts on halting and pushing back Russian forces in the Sumy and Kursk directions, as well as in Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka. These areas remain under constant threat, but Ukrainian troops have successfully reversed enemy advances, reclaiming critical ground. Active defence has allowed Ukrainian units to resist assaults while launching carefully coordinated counterattacks.
The commander also confirmed that Ukrainian drone forces have become a central pillar of the defence and offence strategy. In April alone, Ukrainian drone operators hit 62 targets inside Russian territory and destroyed more than 83,000 enemy targets overall, marking an increase of eight percent compared to March. The military is now working to elevate certain units to full brigade status with an expanded unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) component to strengthen future operations.
