Diplomatic Shift: Norway Closes Ugandan Embassy in Response to Controversial Law
Norway has announced its decision to close its embassy in Uganda in the year 2024. The official statement regarding this move mentioned that it was primarily to reallocate staff to other Norwegian missions in the region. However, there is speculation that this decision is linked to Uganda’s passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act earlier in the year.
Norway’s Minister for International Development has emphasized that the country’s aid to Uganda will not be interrupted despite the embassy’s closure. The Norwegian government has also mentioned that it is taking measures to ensure the preservation of its diplomatic representation in Uganda as it concludes its activities in the country.
