The White House has stated it has strong opinions about what led to a mid air collision near Reagan National Airport involving an American Eagle passenger airplane and a Black Hawk helicopter, though officials have yet to determine the exact cause of the accident.
United States President Donald Trump commented on the incident during a briefing, as reported by UNN with reference to CNN. He stated that while there is no official conclusion, the administration has formed strong views on what may have caused the disaster.
“We did not know what led to this disaster, but we have some very strong opinions and ideas, and I think we are probably going to express those opinions now because over the years I have watched these things happen,” Trump said. He added that his administration believes it has an understanding of what might have gone wrong and is committed to ensuring that such an incident does not occur again.
Meanwhile, the head of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association cautioned against premature conclusions, emphasizing that it is too early to determine the root cause of the accident. In a letter addressed to its members and published online, the association urged for patience while investigations are conducted.
The accident involved an American Eagle airplane carrying 64 passengers that collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport. Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
