The Uganda Police Force reports that the Christmas festival was generally peaceful, except for an attack by suspected ADF rebels in Kamwenge on 26.12.2023, resulting in three casualties. The attackers utilize the vast Kibaale National Park as their base to terrorize vulnerable residents in Kamwenge district.

To counter these attacks, the UPDF and police have increased resources, including the immediate recruitment of LDUs. The focus is on identifying collaborators in the community and monitoring areas near the National Park where the remnants operate.

On 27.12.2023, the UPDF engaged ADF rebels in Kiziba zone, Kamwenge district, resulting in two rebels being neutralized and a third injured. The operation followed an attack on Nyabitusi on 25th – 26th .12.2023.

The Joint Security Agencies commend all personnel for securing the Christmas holiday nationwide. Millions of Christians peacefully gathered in churches to celebrate Christmas. Security teams collaborated with religious leaders to ensure safety, also successfully managing security at music shows and concerts.

Joint Security Personnel, including UPF, UPDF, Prisons, JIC of ISO, CMI, ESO and CI, demonstrated professionalism. Operations focused on addressing disruptive behaviors, intimate partner violence, and intoxication during Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Inter-agency planning, preparation, evaluation, and coordination efforts were effective, reducing the likelihood of major threats. Local leaders and the community’s vigilance contributed to delivering a peaceful Christmas celebration.

Now, attention is shifted to policing the New Year, with a commitment to remaining on full alert to maintain peace during the remaining holiday period.
