KAMPALA – Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) have arrested 559 suspects during a week-long intelligence-led operation targeting criminal activities across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, as security agencies intensify efforts to combat crime and improve public safety.
Speaking at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, August 3, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the coordinated operations were conducted between July 27 and August 2, focusing on dismantling criminal networks operating within the metropolitan region.
“The operations resulted in the arrest of 559 suspects involved in various criminal activities. So far, 308 suspects have been taken to court, while others were cautioned, released on police bond, or remain under active investigation,” Kawala said.
She explained that the intelligence-led operations are part of an ongoing strategy aimed at reducing violent crime, disrupting criminal gangs, and enhancing the safety of residents across Kampala and its neighboring districts.
Kawala reaffirmed the police’s commitment to sustaining the operations, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies will continue using intelligence to identify and apprehend criminals.
“We remain committed to protecting lives and property through sustained operations and public cooperation. We urge residents to continue sharing information that can help police prevent and investigate crime,” she said.
She added that the Uganda Police Force will continue working closely with local communities to strengthen security across Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, and surrounding areas.
The latest crackdown follows a series of similar intelligence-led operations conducted since the beginning of the year, during which thousands of suspects have been arrested as police intensify efforts to curb criminal activity in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
