President Museveni bid a farewell to Ms. Elsie G. Attafuah, the outgoing United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for Uganda, during a courtesy call at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura District, on January 8, 2024.
Ms. Attafuah, who served in Uganda for four and a half years, received acknowledgment from President Museveni for her fundamental contribution to the nation’s development. The President expressed his gratitude, citing his awareness of her impactful work across the country. During the meeting, President Museveni conveyed his desire for the United Nations to focus on supporting Uganda in the areas of skills development and environmental initiatives.
In response, Ms. Attafuah thanked President Museveni for his exceptional leadership, especially during challenging times like the Covid-19 pandemic. She commended the President for making critical decisions that aided the nation in combating the health crisis. Ms. Attafuah also praised President Museveni for his steadfast support to the United Nations.
During the farewell meeting, Ms. Attafuah shared significant developments with President Museveni, highlighting the establishment of an innovation hub in collaboration with Makerere University. This initiative, the first of its kind in Uganda, aims to provide innovators with dedicated spaces to design and develop innovations. Additionally, she expressed gratitude to President Museveni for facilitating UNDP’s presence in Uganda, citing the generous offer of a plot of land in Nakasero in 1986.
The meeting was attended by Ms. Sheila Ngatia, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Uganda, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
