The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has formally distanced itself from the United Forces of Change alliance, an ongoing opposition political pressure group seeking to unite against the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the 2026 General Elections. UPC asserts that no opposition political party or pressure group has approached or communicated an alliance agenda to UPC.
Faizo Muzeyi, UPC’s Head of Media and Communications, addressed journalists at the party’s headquarters in Uganda House, Kampala, stating that UPC operates within well-established political structures and organs to address party-related issues. He emphasized that UPC does not engage in isolation or indulge in unfounded rumors.
Muzeyi remarked, “If there are individuals claiming to represent the interests of UPC political party, UPC does not recognize or acknowledge them.”
In a statement regarding the ongoing 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77+China Summit in Kampala, UPC highlighted the significant challenge posed by heavy debt burdens on NAM members since the Arab-Israel war of the early 1970s. The statement emphasized that such debt has constrained investment capacity, hindered economic and trade opportunities, and limited prospects for the younger population.
The statement concluded, “UPC urges the NAM Summit to devise practical solutions to address the debt trap.”
