The Criminal Investigations Department of Police has summoned Lawyer Male Mabirizi in connection to his recent case accusing the Busoga Kingdom Leader, Kyabazinga William Nadiope, of bigamy. Mabirizi brought forth a private prosecution against Nadiope, his wife Jovia, Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, and others, alleging fictitious marriage and other charges.

The Police summons, under Section 27A of the Police Act, require Mabirizi’s attendance as a key witness in the private criminal case number 746 of 2023. The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has taken over the criminal proceedings, citing the need for Mabirizi’s valuable information, exhibits, or documents to assist in the investigation.

Mabirizi is called to report to Kira Central Division – Jinja Central Police Station on Tuesday, the 13th of February 2014, at 1100 hours. The summons follow Mabirizi’s private prosecutions initiated on November 20th, 2023, against Kyabazinga, his wife, and witnesses of their wedding on November 18th, 2023.

Mabirizi alleges that the marriage ceremony at Christ Cathedral Bugembe was invalid, criminal, and void, as Nadiope had previously contracted a marriage in England in December 2016. Charges include fictitious marriage, bigamy, marriage with a person previously married, unlawfully performing a marriage ceremony, and conspiracy to commit felonies.

Despite the summons, Mabirizi asserts that he will not attend, claiming the takeover of his criminal case by the Jinja Resident State Attorney was premature and unconstitutional.
