Pipe Vandalism Plunges Bukwo into Water Crisis, Ministry Points Fingers

Bukwo, Uganda : The ministry of water and environment officials have called upon the people of Bukwo district to stop cutting and vandalizing pipes connect to supply water for domestic use.

Mr Denethe Ngabiriano the Regional manager Water Umbrella which is managing all urban supplies in small towns including Bukwo told this publication that the ministry had laid all the underground pipes to supply water to the entire district but locals decided to cut and vandalizing several pipes for irrigating their gardens.




“We have evidence in police where some people were arrested cutting pipes and this has affected the distribution of water to these areas,” he said.




Mr Ngabiriano urged the political leaders and opinion leaders to sensitise the public to stop the habit of pipes vandalism saying it hinders water supply.




He promised to send a team to the ground to asses the current situation so that solution can be got.

Yesterday media highlighted the currently water scarcity which is hitting Bukwo beyond.

The locals claim although the ministry of water and environment in 2018,2019 to 2020 constructed a multibillion water facility to supply water to the entire district but the system has failed to supply water.
