During the 19th graduation ceremony of Uganda Pentecostal University in Fort Portal City, Security Minister Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi emphasized the importance of embracing technological advancements in the evolving job market. He urged graduates to prepare themselves and seize opportunities presented by the ongoing digital age.
Maj Gen Muhwezi stressed the need to overcome obstacles, particularly in domains like artificial intelligence, which have created new avenues for development and innovation. He encouraged graduates to use their degrees as gateways to transform communities and open up new possibilities rather than limiting themselves to specific job preferences.
The minister also highlighted the emerging hazards of cybercrimes and data breaches in the digital era, urging the public to proactively engage in protecting digital infrastructure and prioritizing cybersecurity.
Uganda Pentecostal University Chancellor Dr. Maggie Kigozi echoed the importance of embracing technology and leveraging skills and knowledge to foster innovation in the digital age. She encouraged graduates to go beyond conventional qualifications and actively contribute to making a positive impact in society.
Michael Niyitegeka, Director of Refactory Limited and Country Manager for ICOL Africa, emphasized the significance of not solely relying on degree qualifications but also embracing technology. He warned of the impact of neglecting artificial intelligence on the job market and urged graduates to become active participants in the digital age.
Niyitegeka emphasized the shift from a focus on qualifications to a demand for skills, highlighting the importance of being skilled in either creating or using technology. Dr. Kigozi encouraged graduates to thrive on technology, using it not only for communication but also for innovation and positive societal impact.
