Minister of Information and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, has dropped a bombshell on the Ugandan political scene.

“Prepare yourselves, dear citizens, for President Yoweri Museveni will be gracing the ballot once again in 2026”.

Yes, you heard it right – prepare for more Museveni mania!

The revelation came during a meeting with National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from the Busoga sub-region over the weekend.

In a room filled with eager NRM supporters, hanging on every word uttered by their esteemed minister, came the announcement that most  likely surprised no one –  Museveni isn’t going anywhere just yet.

Museveni, who has been at the helm of Ugandan politics for what feels like an eternity, is gearing up for another run at the presidency. One can’t help but wonder if Museveni has a secret fountain of youth hidden away somewhere in the Ugandan wilderness. Or perhaps he’s just really good at playing the political game.

With Uganda still reeling from the aftermath of the last election, where allegations of voter fraud and human rights abuses ran rampant, one would think that the government would tread lightly when it comes to discussing future elections.

So, what can we expect in 2026? More of the same, it seems. More campaign rallies, more promises of development, and more controversy surrounding Museveni’s rule.
