Erias Lukwago, the legal representative of Mityana Municipality’s Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Zaake, expressed surprise at the ongoing prolonged investigation into allegations of insult and misconduct against Rakai District Woman MP Juliet Kinyamatama by Hon Zaake.

The Rakai District Woman MP, Juliet Kinyamatama, has urged Parliament’s Rules, Privileges, and Discipline Committee to conduct a comprehensive mental evaluation of MP Francis Zaake. She further suggested his expulsion from Parliament for the remaining two and a half years of his term in the 11th Parliament.

During her appearance before the Committee, which recently resumed investigations into allegations that Zaake made derogatory remarks against her at a rally in her constituency last year, Kinyamatama presented several demands. Among these was the insistence on Parliament compelling Zaake to issue an unambiguous apology before Parliament, retracting the defamatory statements made in the video clip.

Kinyamatama expressed her discontent, stating, “Zaake implied that I am engaged in the commission of the criminal offense of prostitution against the provisions of sections 139 of the penal code act whose punishment is imprisonment for a period of seven years. This is unacceptable and derogatory to any woman in this era to be referred to as a sex worker. The statements by Hon. Zaake have exposed me to public laughter, indescribable hatred, mockery and ridicule. The statements were so demeaning, very humiliating, very derogative and unacceptable especially coming from a fellow member of parliament.”

Regarding Kinyamatama’s allegations, Zaake appeared before the Rules Committee once more to confront two of her supposed witnesses. One of the witnesses admitted that the accusations against Zaake were groundless.

The second witness, the Coordinator of Makerere University’s School of Languages, responsible for translating the alleged comments into English, confessed that the translation was inaccurate and based on false assumptions.

Zaake anticipates further proceedings as he is scheduled to face the Committee again tomorrow, maintaining his resolve with the affirmation, “This, too, shall pass.”
