The Electoral Commission Chairman of the NRM, Dr. Prof. Tanga Odoi, has assured the people of Dokolo District and Lango Sub-region that the UPC will not secure votes for Members of Parliament, LCV positions, and leaders at the sub-county level in the 2026 general elections. He blamed the UPC for allegations of voter bribery, where some of their serving MPs were arrested for distributing money to the electorate in some sub-counties in Dokolo District.
Odoi narrated that the one-week campaign period given by the Independent Electoral Commission was too short, and they were unable to reach all the electorate in time. Additionally, he lamented that some of the independent NRM-leaning candidates who went against the party constitution stepped down very late in favor of the flag bearer, making it difficult to convince the followers of those candidates. He accused some key opposition figures in Dokolo District of spreading lies and propaganda about the NRM to the voters, stating that the NRM has already learned the tactics of these opposition figures in Lango and is ready to face them with the truth about their generous mobilization in the 2026 general elections.
Tanga noted that the NRM, within just two days leading to the election, was able to garner over 14,001 votes compared to the UPC, which got 23,044 votes. This indicates that if the campaign period was extended to two weeks, they could have doubled the UPC’s votes.
“Remember, we are going to embark on serious grassroots mobilization in Lango Sub-region to reclaim Oyam North from Apio Otuku Eunice and the Dokolo Women MP seat from Sarah Aguti Nyangkori come 2026,” said Dr. Tanga Odoi.
“I would like to inform members of the public that the numberless vehicles are not owned by the NRM,” Tanga Odoi said, adding that the NRM mobilization team did commendable work within one month. He further added, “They have trained their team, and they are continuing to mobilize the whole country so that the NRM takes over opposition in all the elective positions.”
Meanwhile, he commended H.E. the President for always supporting the party. He said President Museveni is a true father of the nation and is gifted by God in leading the country. He also expressed appreciation for SG NRM Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, Rosemary Sseninde, the Director of Mobilization in the NRM Secretariat, and all the NRM task force in Dokolo for their support during the Dokolo bye-election.
He continued that the NRM will unite to defeat the opposition in Uganda because, upon analyzing the recently concluded Dokolo by-election, even some opposition candidates received fewer than two votes in some polling stations, while the NRM got a higher percentage even in FDC and UPC strongholds.
The Ankole Times newspaper reporter engaged Dr. Tanga Odoi in an exclusive interview on Friday after the election.
He warned the police that as the NRM party, they need a clear report about the case involving some UPC MPs who were arrested and unconditionally released by some police authorities at Dokolo CPS.
