Stanbic Bank Announces Interim Leadership Changes

Stanbic Bank Uganda has made public its decision to appoint Samuel F. Mwogeza as Interim Chief Executive and Barbara Dokoria as Interim Executive Director, starting April 1, 2024. This arrangement will remain in place until permanent replacements are found for these positions.

The announcement comes following the conclusion of Anne Juuko’s term as the Executive Head of Personal and Private Banking (PPB), who will transition to the role of Global Markets Regional Head for East Africa starting April 2024. Additionally, Barbara Dokoria’s appointment as Interim Executive Director comes in the wake of Emma Mugisha’s resignation from the position of Executive Director and Head of Business & Commercial Banking, who is moving to join Access Bank Plc.

Damoni Kitabire, the Chairman of Stanbic Bank’s Board of Directors, extended congratulations to the newly appointed interim leaders and expressed gratitude towards Anne Juuko and Emma Mugisha for their significant contributions to the bank’s enduring success. Kitabire wished them success in their future endeavors.

Samuel Mwogeza, the newly appointed Interim Chief Executive, boasts a wealth of experience in finance and leadership roles spanning over 20 years. With a background as a qualified accountant, executive coach, and business leader, Mwogeza has spent the majority of his career at Stanbic Bank, except for a brief stint at VisionFund International in London. Throughout his tenure at Stanbic, he has held various positions including Finance Manager, Executive Head of Personal and Private Banking, and Chief Finance Officer. Mwogeza’s achievements include winning the CFO of the Year Award in 2018 and being named CPA of the Year in 2019 for his instrumental role in leading the bank’s transformation.

Barbara Dokoria, the newly appointed Interim Executive Director, brings over two decades of experience in risk and compliance management, all acquired at Stanbic Bank. Starting as a clerical banking officer, Dokoria has risen through the ranks to become a top manager in audit and compliance departments. Her expertise spans regulatory compliance, anti-money laundering, fraud risk, and data privacy compliance. Additionally, Dokoria holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and is a certified ACCA Member.
