Investigation Launched After Buluge Student Electrocuted in Lira

Lira, Uganda – The territorial police in Lira-City West Division are investigating circumstances under which a student of Buluge Technical School, identified as Okol Sam, aged 27, got electrocuted at Junior Quarters Cell, Adyel Ward, Lira-City West Division in Lira City. It’s alleged that on April 10, 2024, at around 10:15 hours, Okol Sam, a second-year plumbing student at Buluge Technical School, went to Adyel Children’s Park where construction work is ongoing by Abubaka Technical Services, to do casual work.

According to SP Okema Jimmy Patrick, the police PRO of North Kyoga Region, while there, Okol got electrocuted while he was up on a tank stand doing his work. He was, however, rescued and rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead. A report was registered at Lira-City West Division by one Ojok Joshua.




Okema added that a team of police officers from Lira City West Division Police Station, led by the Division CID Officer, SOCO, Homicide team, and a team of officers from Umeme office Lira, visited the scene of the crime and documented it. He stated that relevant statements were recorded from witnesses; however, preliminary findings indicate there was waterlogging on the said tank stand and an electric wire running from the switch connected to the machine up to the tank stand where the deceased was electrocuted.




The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary pending postmortem. Police spokesperson SP Okema Jimmy Patrick said this is a very unfortunate incident and sends condolences to the bereaved family.
