Alebtong. Uganda – Okullu Patrick Okeng, who has been the NRM flag bearer twice in the recently concluded elections, has told The Ankole Times reporter that he is now ready to contest as the LCV candidate for Alebtong district in the forthcoming general elections as 2026 draws closer.
In his own words, Okullu Patrick Okeng said, “He doesn’t want anybody apart from the NRM flag bearer to take over the position of Alebtong LCV chairperson. “It is only me, Okullu Patrick Okeng, who can market the ideology of the NRM party on wealth creation and socio-economic transformation locally, nationally, and globally correctly, and nobody else,” echoed Okeng.
He added that UPC and any other parties must forget about getting their candidates into leadership in Alebtong district come 2026 because it will not be a by-election as usual. “I repeat, the forthcoming election of 2026 is not a by-election and it will never be a by-election like Oyam and Dokolo district. It is a real general election, not mere by-election; hence I see only NRM winning in most parts of Lango sub-region,” narrated Okullu Okeng.
When asked about the current political trend in Alebtong district, Mr. Okullu narrated that other parties will no longer have a good number of votes in Alebtong district at all levels, including the LCV seat position which he (Okullu) is eyeing. He, however, urged the NRM secretariat and ONC team to support him fully as he prepares to be a flag bearer again who will make other political parties be under pressure, and automatically NRM shall sweep all the votes in Alebtong district.
He was speaking to the media in an exclusive interview from Alebtong town council recently.
Okullu Patrick Okeng is likely to face the current Alebtong LCV Chairman DK Odongo, who is known to be a great supporter and mobilizer of UPC in Lango sub-region.
Recently, MP Nyangkori Aguti Sarah and Hon. Apio Otuku Eunice all won the Dokolo district woman MP and Oyam North MP seat respectively under the UPC party ticket in the just concluded by-election held by the Independent Electoral Commission in Lango sub-region.
UPC party leaders on Saturday opened their office in the Kigezi region, and the members were led by Akena Jimmy Michael, son of the late President Dr. Milton Obote.
