The Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Jack Agonza Bakasumba, has praised the French government for its assistance in training the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). This support has significantly strengthened the fight against terrorism.
Maj Gen Bakasumba expressed his gratitude during a meeting with the French Defence Attaché, Lt Col Yam Chollet, who visited him at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) Headquarters in Mbuya. He credited their partnership for the success, saying, “We share the credit with you, our partners. Thank you so much for that support. We appreciate so much for the training support. UPDF soldiers reach the mission area when they are well trained, and the performance is very good as expected by the leadership.”
In response, Lt Col Yam Chollet commended UPDF’s efforts in promoting peace within the region. He acknowledged the capabilities and professionalism of the Ugandan army in maintaining peace and stability.
The purpose of Lt Col Chollet’s visit was to prepare for the upcoming arrival of the French Defence Director for security and defence cooperation to Uganda.
Among those present at the meeting were Col Younes Bagada, the Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (Defence and International Engagements), Col William Kakuru, the Military Assistant to the Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Jeannot Xavier, and Ms. Pigot Juliette, who accompanied the French Defence Attaché.
