Activist Agather Atuhaire recently brought attention to an unusual situation involving Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda. Many in Parliament are curious about the capacity in which MP Kabanda is driving a vehicle designated for parliamentary use.
MP Kabanda is currently seen driving a vehicle that was originally acquired for the former Speakers of Parliament a few months ago. Before this, he was driving a double cabin truck, which also belonged to Parliament.
According to parliamentary rules, only certain officials are entitled to use vehicles provided by Parliament. These officials include the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Leader of the Opposition (LOP), Government Chief Whip, Opposition Chief Whip, and Commissioners. MP Kabanda does not hold any of these positions.
Like other MPs, MP Kabanda received 200 million Ugandan shillings to purchase a personal vehicle. This raises questions as to why he is using a parliamentary vehicle instead.
This issue has sparked discussions among members of Parliament and the public, who are seeking clarification on the proper use of parliamentary resources and vehicles.
