The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Judith Nabakooba, delivered a compelling message to a cohort of police officers participating in a Senior Command course at the Police Senior and Staff College in Bwebajja. She urged them to leverage culture as a means to enhance the nation’s security. The occasion for her remarks was a cultural gala organized by the students of the Police College, held under the theme: Harnessing cultural diversity for national security.
Nabakooba underscored the significant role of culture in bolstering national security, emphasizing the strength inherent in Uganda’s diverse cultural heritage. She highlighted that cultural diversity facilitates understanding and appreciation of different viewpoints, enhances adaptability, promotes resilience, and fosters a more cohesive society.
Acknowledging the Uganda Police Force and other security agencies, Nabakooba commended their efforts in preserving and promoting cultural diversity within the framework of the law. She stressed that national security extends beyond military might, encompassing unity and resilience among the populace. Celebrating cultural diversity, she noted, contributes to building stronger and more unified communities capable of addressing security challenges and maintaining peace and stability.
“I recognize the Uganda Police Force’s vital role in upholding and promoting cultural diversity while adhering to legal mandates. Your commitment to safeguarding our communities reflects the core values that define us as Ugandans,” Nabakooba affirmed.
The cultural gala showcased the importance of social values such as respect, cooperation, and community in fostering a harmonious society. Participants demonstrated how these values contribute to building strong foundations for national security.
In her closing remarks, ACP Alungat Barbara, Acting Commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College, Bwebajja, expressed gratitude to the Uganda Police top management and the college control board for their support and guidance in organizing the successful event.
The gala was attended by senior officers, including SCP Moses Kafeero, Director of Human Resource Development, SCP Bamunoba Ubaldo, the Force’s Chief Political Commissar, and other distinguished leaders from the Uganda Police Force.
