Gen Kainerugaba and Chinese Defence Attaché Discuss Strengthening Military Ties
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, hosted Colonel Zhang Hao, the newly appointed Chinese Defence Attaché, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe. The meeting, which took place on July 31, 2024, was a significant moment in the deepening military relationship between Uganda and China.
During their discussion, Gen Kainerugaba and Col Zhang emphasized the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Uganda and China. They both acknowledged the importance of their nations’ historical ties and the potential for future collaboration.
As the first Chinese Military Attaché to be assigned to Uganda, Col Zhang’s arrival marks a new chapter in the strategic relationship between the two countries. Both officials expressed their commitment to enhancing military cooperation in areas of mutual interest. This new position for Col Zhang underlines the strengthening of Uganda-China relations and the growing importance of military ties.
This meeting follows recent engagements by Gen Kainerugaba with other Chinese representatives, including the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda and a delegation from China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO). NORINCO is one of the world’s largest aerospace and defense companies, indicating a broader effort by Uganda to deepen its defense partnerships with China.
