President Ruto Grants City Status to Eldoret
Eldoret, a prominent town in Kenya known as the “Home of Champions,” has been officially designated as a city. On Thursday, President William Ruto awarded Eldoret its city charter and seal, marking its formal entry into Kenya’s list of cities.
Eldoret, which serves as the headquarters for Uasin Gishu County, now joins the ranks of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru as the fifth city in Kenya. The town is situated south of the Cherangani Hills, standing at an elevation of 2,100 meters above sea level.
This new status recognizes Eldoret’s growth and development, acknowledging its role and significance in the region. The city charter will facilitate further advancements and opportunities for Eldoret as it continues to evolve.
