(Ntungamo) – Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has announced the passing of his grandfather-in-law, Mzee Ernest Nvunganyi. The funeral took place on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Kayonza, Ntungamo District.
Mzee Nvunganyi, who was a grandfather to Bobi Wine’s wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, was laid to rest at his ancestral home. Bobi Wine, who had recently returned from a political tour abroad, described Mzee Nvunganyi as both a family member and a close friend.
In his announcement, Bobi Wine reflected on Mzee Nvunganyi’s big role in his life. He recalled how Mzee Nvunganyi had been instrumental in gaining the acceptance of his wife’s family and maintaining strong familial bonds. Bobi Wine expressed his deep sorrow, noting, “He played a key role in convincing my wife’s family to accept me into their lives and let me marry their daughter. Even until his death, he was actively involved in keeping strong the bond between our families. We shall greatly miss him.”
Barbie Kyagulanyi added that Mzee Nvunganyi passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 19, 2024. He was 84 years old. Bobi Wine’s heartfelt message on his social media platform has drawn widespread sympathy and condolences from his supporters and followers in both the music and political world.
Mourners the Ankole Times spoke to described Mzee Ernest Nvunganyi as a respected elder in the Rukanda community of Rwentobo Ntungamo District who was known for his wisdom and gentle nature and that his death marks a very big loss for both his family and the local community.
