Elias Kanyonza Jameson, the long-serving LC3 Chairperson of Rugyeyo Sub-county, has passed away, leaving a significant void in local leadership within Kanungu District.
Kanyonza died on Tuesday at Namirembe Hospital, where he had been rushed for medical treatment. He was widely regarded as a committed, straightforward, and dedicated public servant.
His political career began in 1996 when he was elected Youth Chairperson for Rugyeyo Sub-county. Following the creation of Kanungu District in 2001, he was elected LC3 Chairperson—a position he held consistently, earning recognition for his steady leadership and service at the grassroots level.
Tributes have since poured in from leaders across the district and beyond. Chris Baryomusi described Kanyonza as a devoted servant whose leadership significantly improved the livelihoods of many in the community.
District leaders, including Mwogyera Henry and Ahimbisibwe Annet, hailed him as an inspiration to young leaders, noting that his legacy of dedication and service will endure.
In a council meeting held at the District Council Hall, councillors observed a moment of silence in his honour and resolved to hold a special Sub-county council sitting in Rugyeyo as a tribute to his contribution to district development.
He will be laid to rest on Thursday, 2nd April 2026, at his ancestral home in Kabahesi Cell, Kashojwa Parish, Rugyeyo Sub-county, Kanungu District.
