Kabale District Woman MP, Hon. Atwakiire Catherine Ndamira, found herself at the center of controversy at St. John’s Kamunganguzi Church of Uganda in Kabale District.

The drama unfolded when Ndorwa West County MP, Hon. David Bahati, asked Atwakiire if she had ever made any contributions to the church. Before she could respond, Bahati consulted with the Archdeacon, Ven. Benoni Byaruhanga, who denied receiving any donations from her.

However, when Atwakiire took the microphone, she cleverly asked the congregation if anyone had witnessed her contributions to the church.

To everyone’s surprise, many church members raised their hands, leaving both church leaders and attendees confused about who was telling the truth.

This incident has sparked rumors and speculation about the interplay of politics within the church, with some questioning whether this represents “politics in the church” or “church in politics.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Atwakiire has been involved in a controversy at this church. On Easter Sunday, she was denied the microphone at a burial ceremony, which was instead given to Katuna Town Council Mayor Elivis Nzeirwe Byonanebye to deliver a speech on behalf of the government.

It’s worth noting that Atwakiire has been actively involved in various community development initiatives, including providing prosthetics for a man electrocuted during construction and encouraging women to foster strong families.

She has also supported fundraising efforts for St. Ignatius University Kabale, contributing 6 million shillings to the project and honoring her pledge of 100 bags of cement towards the construction of St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rugarama.
