Daniel Ojara, Omoro District – Between October and November this year, 13 Bodaboda motorcycles were reported stolen by suspected thieves in Opit Town Council, Omoro District. Of these, only one motorcycle has been recovered; the others are still missing.
According to reports, the motorcycles are usually stolen when their owners park them outside drinking joints or discos at night.
In some cases, the owners are attacked by the suspected thieves while riding at night. The latest attack occurred last Friday, when a Bodaboda rider was struck on the head along the Opit-Palenga road and left unconscious. His motorcycle was immediately stolen.
However, the motorcycle was recovered two days later at Odek Trading Centre following a joint Bodaboda operation.
Vincent Odong, the chairperson of the Opit Town Council Youths Bodaboda Association, said that some of their members fail to heed advice, particularly those who have loans and are working under pressure.
“We normally caution our members against operating beyond 10 p.m. to midnight, riding while drunk, and being careful with the customers they transport at night,” Odong said. “However, some of our members take these warnings for granted, and now they are facing problems.”
The Opit Town Council Youths Bodaboda Association has over 200 active members.
