Uganda Cranes and Kitara FC forward, Denis Omedi has been nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award. This is the award given to the best goal scored over the last course of 12 months on a football calendar. The sublime forward who was in exceptional form for the Royals a couple of months ago scored a stunner in the FUFA Super 8 tournament back in August.
In a game held at the MTN Philip Omondi stadium in Lugogo, Kitara was trailing KCCA by a goal to nil before the forward received a long ball in the Kasasiro Boys box. He was just a few inches inside the box before he cooly controlled the ball with his left foot.
He twisted and turned the KCCA defender who was marking him and beautifully curled the ball into the back of the net with a magnificent rabona. The ball was well over the KCCA goalie. This goal sent the whole stadium into an eruption of celebrations from the Kitara fans while the KCCA supporters just applauded the sheer brilliance of the wondrous strike.
Additionally, this goal also went viral on different social media platforms and many started calling it a FIFA Puskas Award contender. And well it has made the official list of the 11 contending goals.
Omedi however will have to see off the competition of the likes of West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, Inter Milan’s Federico DiMarco among others.
