Kabale’s Rwagana Cell Emerges Victorious in Karubanda Ward Mega Sports Tournament

Rwagana Cell Wins Karubanda Ward Sports Tournament in Dramatic Penalty Shootout

Rwagana Cell, located in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality, emerged victorious in the Karubanda Ward Mega Sports Tournament held yesterday. They won 2-0 in a thrilling penalty shootout after a tied match. The one-day event, organized by Wakiso Deputy RDC Sheikh Kasim Kamugisha, brought together all 10 villages of Karubanda Ward. The tournament took place at St. Paul’s Seminary Playground.

Sheikh Kasim Kamugisha, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Wakiso and the Kabale Municipality National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, was the chief guest. He highlighted the challenges faced by athletes in the past, noting the lack of support for sportsmen and women. Kamugisha urged the players to avoid behaviors that could jeopardize their careers, stressing the importance of consistent training and discipline to achieve greater success.

Kamugisha also announced plans to host a sports gala on January 26, 2025, in celebration of Uganda’s Liberation Day. The event will aim to discover and nurture new talent.

Kabale District Deputy Speaker and Southern Division LCV Councilor Hon. Ronald Eyan Mugisha also addressed the gathering. He reminded attendees that success is a result of commitment, hard work, and focus. He added that Uganda has benefited financially from the achievements of its sports personalities, both locally and internationally.

The tournament saw all villages in Karubanda Ward compete, with Rwagana emerging as the champions by defeating Kahama-Runyanjoka 2-0 in the penalty shootout. The winners were awarded a bull, a trophy, medals, and UGX 500,000. The runners-up, Kahama-Runyanjoka, received a goat and medals. All semi-finalist teams were also presented with football jerseys and footballs.
